Bass Lessons at Thunder Road

The Bass Guitar Program at Thunder Road is professional, comprehensive, and challenging. Exactly what every bass player wants!

The job of the bass player is to provide the anchor between the beat of the drums and the melody of the guitar, vocals and the keyboards. Although the bass can get very melodic and very heavy in the beat, it is usually the glue that binds the whole song together.

Rhythm & Groove

The bass not only holds the band together rhythmically, but is also a crucial component to the overall sound and direction of the music. At Thunder Road you’ll learn to create and perform your own unique bass lines in a variety of different styles. Throughout the program we will focus on four key areas of bass playing: time, tonality, and timbre.

Any Playing Style

Thunder Road provides individualized instruction in all bass playing styles, including rock, funk, R&B, reggae, blues, and jazz. We encourage students to explore their own style, and prepare them for both concert performance and studio work.

Learn From the Legends

Through guided study will learn the techniques and unique playing styles of bass masters across many different genres, including Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Carol Kaye, James Jamerson, Chuck Rainey, John Paul Jones, Flea, Roger Entwhistle, Sting, Victor Wooten, Ray Brown and many more.

Advanced Bass Studies

Additional study topics include pentatonic, blues, major, and minor scales; diatonic harmony; ostinato bass lines; groove and time feel; and compositional techniques, such as tritones, pedal points, and double stops.
