Drum Lessons at Thunder Road
The Drum Program at Thunder Road offers you a professional, comprehensive music education plus the practical experience you need to become a proficient drummer.
We respect and implement the classical traditions of drum instruction, but also include modern teaching methods and playing techniques.
We ensure you progress at a comfortable pace, incorporating learning to play songs in the very first lesson. We also challenge your talents and abilities by providing a myriad playing opportunities.
One-on-one faculty/student interaction is crucial to your Thunder Road experience. Thunder Road’s drum teachers are innovative educators as well as experienced musicians.
BEGINNER PROGRAM
Beginning Drum Program
Gain a solid foundation in drum kit performance and musicianship with Thunder Road’s Beginner Drum Program. We explore five main topics: musicianship, hand-to-hand technique, snare drum reading, drum kit coordination, and repertoire development.
Keeping Time
The course starts with teaching the basics, such as the concept of time; how to develop proper grip, playing area, and sound; and how to achieve balance and evenness between your hands.
Learning the Rudiments
You will perform helpful strengthening and dexterity exercises and explore drum rudiments, including the double stroke roll, single stroke roll, paradiddle, double paradiddle, triple paradiddle, drag, drag paradiddle 1, flam, and flam accent.
Exploring Drum Styles
The course moves on to topics related to two-, three- and four-way coordination, touch, balance, dynamics, and shadings in the context of common groove patterns found in Rhythm & Blues, Pop-Rock, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban music.
